Animal Poetry

The following is original student poetry from the One World Classroom Event, May 2011, which celebrated the animals of Africa. The students worked with the performance artist, Paul Hurteau.

Who am I?
by Angel, Maura, Montana, Nicolena and Sebastian, Grade 3
I am tall, as tall as a tree,
I am strong, as strong as the hulk,
I am spotted, spots like circles,
I am slow, slow as a slug,
I am fast, as fast as a lion,
I am heavy, heavy as a rhino,
I am skinny, skinny as a branch,
I am calm, calm as the wind,
I am mellow, yes; I am quite a mellow fellow!!
Who am I?

Who am I?
by Sam, Qua-nair, Mazzy, Jahirah, Jennifer and Quamirah, Grade 4
Big and gray like a rhino.
Huge as a boulder and wrinkly as a dried leaf.
I'm the modern day mammoth and can bash out of danger.
I can remember like a scientist and I'm as strong as a grizzly bear.
Who am I?

Who am I?
by Mary-Margaret, Damone, Justina and Mykle, Grade 4
Roar...
Roar...
I eat meat
Roar like a carnivore,
My mane blows in the winds when I run in the plains.
Since I'm the King of the Savannah, I make the laws,
because I have big claws, and powerful jaws, and can eat anything raw.
When I bite a zebra, they feel pain, I'm unstoppable then I feel vain.
Roar...
Roar...
I bite and fight all day and night. And I have the right to do anything tight.
My teeth is like an icicle, pocket knife, I don't care if it's a butcher knife.
Roar...
Roar...
I'm fast and furry like a cheetah. I am tannish like I'm banished from the savannah grass.
Roar...
Roar...
Who am I?

Who am I?

Grr Grr
I chop my meat with my claws and I eat them with my powerful jaws.
I am nifty and I weigh about 550.
I'm fast and I'm proud.
I'm a king that's why my mouth is full of bling.
I'm strong and bold.
I have a hairy mane and I can stand the powerful rain.
I wear a long shaggy wig and I eat like a pig.
Grr Grr
I am a stunter and a really great hunter
Grr Grr
I have a heart and I'm smart.
Grr Grr
I will get YOU!

Who am I?
by Empress and David, Grade 4
Boom Boom is the sound when I walk
I make a trumpet noise when I talk
I am the color of the clouds and I'm really loud
I have a nose like a tuba and blanket ears
I use them as a fan and they help me hear
Stomp Stomp Stomp that's the way I walk
I have nails that are pebble sized
I'm mostly gray but I have black eyes
Boom Boom Boom that's the sound when I walk
I make a trumpet noise when I talk
Who am I?

Who am I?
By Hilbert, Grade 4
I am like a marathon runner.
I'm messy like sloppy joe.
Ha ha ha!
I'm as tan as sand.
I have powerful teeth.
I eat like a cheetah.
I look like a cheetah.
Ha ha ha!
I'm a beast
I eat a lot of meat
People say I laugh.
I may have stripes but watch out I may only have dots.
Ha ha ha!
I have ears like a german shepherd.
I walk on 4 feet and I live on dry land.
I also hunt in packs so beware of my attacks.
Ha ha ha!
